Have fun, relax and enjoy yourself!
If you have young children, bring a toy or something they love to entertain them while you are having your portraits done. Toys can also help a child relax when having their own portrait taken and may even add a small touch of history to your child's photograph.
Try to schedule any naps or snack times so as to help your child be their happiest during the session.
During the shoot, dont worry about being perfect, we want a relaxed, natural image to portray your family's true character. Dont worry about your child fidgeting or that they are distracted. They dont need to smile all the time. I will help them focus on the camera and in some shots, smile.
A small child needs help at times or they can feel frustrated or ignored. Dont worry if we need to stop to take care of them. Have patience for them. If necessary, we can schedule 2 small sessions.
Most of all, have FUN!

What to Wear
I thought I would share a few tips and suggestions on what to wear to enhance your portraits.
- Busy patterns, bright colors, uncomfortable clothing can create a distraction from your face. Wear solid colors. If having family portraits done, I suggest a variety of styles and shades that compliment each other rather than matching everyone's clothing. We want to capture a natural, relaxed image of your family.
- Darker colors are slenderizing.
- Eye color is enhanced through the reflection in your clothing. Try to choose a color that compliments your eyes. Avoid bright orange, yellows and pinks if possible, these colors can affect your skin tones.
- Long sleeves are best for adults however, children can wear either.
- Remember some portraits may show your feet so remember to wear socks and shoes that match your clothing.
- Small jewelry can compliment the face. Avoid large, distracting accessories.
- Remember your nails, they should be trimmed and clean.
- Simple hairstyles with natural makeup are best.
- Bring some touch up supplies for hair and makeup, especially powder to minimize shine. Men can also benefit from a little bit of powder if you are worried about too much shine in your portraits. It will not show in your photos.
the force
“Photography records the gamut of feelings written on the human face, the beauty of the earth and skies that man has inherited, and the wealth and confusion man has created. It is a major force in explaining man to man.”~Edward Steichen
Stay This Moment by Sam Abell
"Above all, it's hard learning to live with vivid mental images of scenes I cared for and failed to photograph. It is the edgy existence within me of these unmade images that is the only assurance that the best photographs are yet to be made."
